C.A.P.'s Mission

Helping with the Blood Drive

The Christian Action Program is a student-run organization dedicated to improving the surrounding community through ongoing acts of service. One of the most active programs at Devon, C.A.P consists of students from grades six to twelve. The club serves several purposes; while attending to the spiritual and physical needs of those in the area, it also offers Devon students a unique opportunity to take roles of responsibility and use their skills to accomplish meaningful work.

C.A.P’s Annual Events:

School Supplies Drive: Devon students and families bring in new school supplies over the summer to ensure that disadvantaged children in Philadelphia can start the school year off with everything that they need. This summer, Devon donated over 4,600 assorted supplies.

Up For a Cause: During the 2008-2009 academic year, the Middle School and Upper School of Devon Prep raised nearly $40,000 for the Child Life Division of the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia.

Harvest Tide Food Drive: CAP collects canned goods and frozen turkeys for St. Elizabeth?s Community Center in Philadelphia. In 2008, C.A.P. donated over 5,000 cans and 67 turkeys. Every year when the food is taken to the center, the C.A.P. students get to see firsthand the huge impact of their work.

St. Edmund’s Christmas Party: Every Christmas, Devon Prep holds a weekend Christmas party for the mentally challenged adults of St. Edmund’s Home.

February Blood Drive: Working in partnership with the American Red Cross, C.A.P facilitates the donation of dozens of quarts of blood by Devon teachers and students. The year, Devon Prep donated 62 pints of blood for the Red Cross, a new school record.

Clothing Drive: Carried out all throughout the year, the drive also benefits St. Elizabeth’s Community Center and the Northern Home for Children.
