Class of ’67 Alumnus Speaks to Seniors
Class of 1967 Alumnus Dr. John Bennett spoke to the Class of 2010 as the first in a series of alumni presentations to the senior class.
After graduating from Devon Prep, Dr. Bennett attended St. Joseph’s University where he majored in Physics, and then went on to study medicine at Hahnemann Medical School. As he began his medical career in emergency medicine, he also began investing in real estate in the Society Hill section of Philadelphia during its renaissance in the mid to late seventies.
Throughout the next few decades, Dr. Bennett established and operated his own private companies. Today he directs a group of companies that operate throughout the globe, especially in China.
Dr. Bennett focused his presentation on his business dealings with the Chinese. His experiences in China began more than a decade ago, and he anticipates that the opportunities will be available there for him and many others at least for another two or three decades. Among their many activities, John’s companies manufacture and sell medical equipment and create software for medical facilities.
During his presentation Dr. Bennett often encouraged the seniors to keep an open mind as they enter the next phase of their education.
“Look at all there is around you,” he said. “You don’t have to look far away to figure out what you want to do. Keep an open mind. Look outside the box,” he continued, “figure out a way that you can make life better for people.”
