Young men from Devon Preparatory School will be joined by young ladies from nearby private, public, and Catholic high schools, in our fall drama production of Thornton Wilder's The Matchmaker.The American-born author's play was first performed in Edinburgh, Scotland in 1954 followed immediately by a London production. The first U.S. production opened the following year at the Locust Street Theater in Philadelphia. Two months later the show opened on Broadway directed by the renowned Tyrone Guthrie and featuring major American actors Ruth Gordon, Arthur Hill, and a very young Robert Morse. The play later became the foundation for the book for the well-loved musical Hello Dolly!
