The Arts program at Devon Prep encompasses opportunities for students within the realm of Art, Music and Theater. Benefits of Art Education in the curriculum include, but are not limited to higher GPA and SAT scores, stronger reading and math skills and higher levels of empathy and social tolerance.
The Visual and Sculptural Art program offers a foundational Middle School Art curriculum which is scaffolded and appropriate for their age level and cognitive development. In addition, there are multiple innovative and immersive electives in the High School. High School electives include: Art 101, MakerSpace:Sculpture and Construction, Design Materials and Methods, Graphic Design, Advanced Art and AP Art. Student leadership opportunities include an Arts Student Council as well as Art Club.
The Music program offers a Middle School Ensemble elective, which students work on the foundations of music literacy, ear training, and practical technique for the student’s chosen instrument. They are also able to participate in school bands for those at an advanced level. High School musicians are able to choose from a variety of school bands, such as vocal group, ChoralTide and instrumental groups such as Jazz band and Rock band. HS Music Electives include Music Production Lab and AP Music Theory.
The Theater program puts on two large productions every year, one being the Fall Drama and the other being the Spring Musical. Positions of all kinds are available to students, such as performing Actors, Stage Crew, and Stage Management. The students are involved in all aspects of the productions. These are highly immersive experiences where students get to learn the ins and outs of theater. We welcome girls from local high schools to join our productions!
